Since retiring from the NHS in 2018, I now offer psychological and holistic therapies from my private practice (Sanctuary Therapies) which is based in Sammy Anne’s Beauty and Holistic Therapy Centre. I am here for appointments on Monday mornings, afternoons and evenings.
My special interests include working with adults who are experiencing anxiety, stress, grief, depression or who may be recovering from trauma and also those who are experiencing physical health challenges. My work is concerned with supporting and assisting someone to live their best life possible, despite the current or past experiences they have lived through or are living with.
My background is a 26 year career in the NHS, first as a Mental Health nurse, then specialising in the Psychological therapies since 2001. My last decade in the NHS was working as a Psychological Therapist within Cancer Care Services.
The treatments I offer include:
Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) – I have been an accredited CAT practitioner since 2006. CAT therapy is time-limited, (usually 16-24 sessions) and provides scope for deep change work. The therapy gives particular attention to relationships – our relationship with others as well as our relationship with ourself. Another important aspect of the therapy is the opportunity to explore, understand and make changes to the repeating patterns we can find ourself in, despite our best efforts to make changes in our life. Cognitive analytic Therapy is an integrative therapy, so it can bring in lots of different ways of working to create the changes that you want to focus on ; Some of the approaches I use are anxiety management techniques, relaxation, mindfulness practices and EFT (see below for more information).
Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT or Tapping)
Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT or Tapping)– I have been a qualified EFT Practitioner since 2008. EFT is a gentle mind/body technique which uses tapping on acupressure points on your hand, head and torso with your own fingers, to switch on the body’s natural calming response. EFT can be taught in a few sessions as a self-soothing strategy and can be combined with psychological therapy for managing anxiety, stress , grief and for processing difficult experiences and traumatic memories.
Advanced EFT Techniques
Advanced EFT Techniques– I am trained and experienced in using the advanced EFT processes known as ‘Identity Healing’. I use these gentle but powerful techniques to help heal the younger parts of ourselves that may ‘hold’ childhood distress, stress and trauma, freeing up our potential to be the integrated adults that we can be.
Reiki – I have been a Reiki practitioner since 2008. Reiki (pronounced Ray-key) is the Japanese word for ‘universal life energy’, the vital energy around and within all living things. Reiki can help to restore balance in your life and works at the physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual (whatever particular meaning that has for you) levels. A full Reiki treatment usually takes an hour. The fully dressed recipient, just with shoes removed, lies on a couch and is made comfortable. If it is not easy to lie down the treatment can be given in a sitting position. The practitioner gently places her hands non-intrusively in a sequence of positions on the head and body. Reiki can be deeply relaxing and can support our natural resilience and coping.
Reiki – first session 90 minutes £30 , subsequent sessions 1 hour at £30. (Concessions available for those who are unwaged).
Psychological Therapies– £40 an hour (Concessions available for those who are unwaged).
